Folsom Children's Zoo 5

Mena, Peyton, and Tyler sitting on a giant caterpillar.
Mena holding a butterfly.
Mena decided to sit down on the wall inside the butterfly pavillion, so Peyton decided to join her. Peyton got bored so he got up. Mena continued to sit on the wall and told me "no" when I asked if she was ready to go. Then after a couple minutes she decided to get up. She walked a few feet away and then turned around and sat back down again. I let her sit there a couple more minutes and then told her we had to leave. I think she liked looking at the butterflies, but I also think she was just tired and wanted to sit down. It was the last stop in the zoo and then we headed home.

Folsom Children's Zoo 4

Tyler wanted to hold hands, but Mena wasn't so sure she wanted to.

Peyton, Mena, and Tyler in a teepee, structure kind of thing.

Mena and I in the aviary. (Mena had been scared to go in the aviary because of the plastic covers at the doors and because the birds could get so close to us. Peyton ran in and out of the plastic covers multiple times laughing and then Mena started mimicing him. Thanks, Peyton!!)

Mena and I in front of a taxidermied bear. (Mena was scared to even let me carry her up to the bear. Then Peyton ran up and excitedly touched the bear. Mena was then ok petting the bear and touched it lots of times! Thanks again, Peyton!!)

Folsom Children's Zoo

We visited the Lincoln zoo on Saturday, May 28th, with Grandma and Gpa Frye who were babysitting cousins Peyton and Tyler.

Grandma is holding Mena to look at the reindeer.

Peyton, Mena, and Tyler are sitting on a turtle statue.

Mena is looking intently with her face pressed against the window at a Golden Lion Tamarin and a Armadillo.

Gpa tried to help Mena feed the goat, but she wanted nothing to do with it!

Writing

Mena said "Mommy, Daddy, Gam, paint" as she scribbled her crayon up and down. She "wrote" from left to right in a horizonal line just like she's seen us do. She was referring to when Grandma Frye, Gene, and I painted her bedroom.

Standing Up

Gene stood Maggie up with her hands on the edge of the rocking chair and she balanced herself for a very short amount of time!

Rolled Over

On May 24th Maggie rolled from her stomach to her back all by herself. Up to this point she'd only rolled stomach to back if I set her with an arm under her body. This time she pushed up on both arms and then rolled herself. She got pretty excited and started kicking her legs.

Rainy Day

Mena and Jake wondering when the rain will go away!

Mena was telling me about how the rain made it clean outside.  We have had this conversation every time it rains since we were in the car during a rain storm.  Mena said we needed a new car since ours got wet.  I told her we weren't buying a new car and that the rain would just make our car clean.  She also now tells us to turn on the wipers when there is even a sprinkle on the windshield.  She gets excited when they go across and tells us to do it again.

Bath Time

I tried giving Maggie a bath with Mena in the big tub but it's just so difficult to reach both girls with the shower doors. Then I went back to bathing Maggie in the baby bath tub. Now that Maggie is sitting up so well, I decided to try giving her a bath in the kitchen sink. She loves it. These pictures are from the first time she was in the sink. She was a little unsteady and I kept a hand on her. The second time she was more familiar with sitting in the water and didn't need me to hold her constantly. She even figured out how to balance herself and splash at the same time. She was smiling and making splashes so big I felt water hit the top of my head. I started laughing and she just started splashing more.

6 Months Old

Maggie is 27 1/4 inches long (87%), 18 pounds 10 ounces (87%), and her head is 17 5/8 inches (95%). She is all around healthy and doing everything she is supposed to do for her age. The birthmark on the back of her neck has grown a bit but the doctor said it's increased in proportion to her overall growth so there's no problem there. Her strawberry has continued to grow. The doctor measured the strawberry and reminded me that it will get bigger before it gets smaller and will be gone by the time she's 7.

Maggie got a bad drool rash. I'd called the doctor's office two weeks before and described it to the nurse. The nurse told me to go pick up an OTC medicine that would help. She said it had turned into a yeast infection. I didn't even know you could get a yeast infection on the neck. It improved but didn't go away so I took her in to see the PA the week before. She looked at Maggie's neck and said it was definitely a yeast infection and to use the OTC medicine 3x rather than 2x/day. When we went in for Maggie's 6 month check up, the doctor said it should have been gone by then so he called in a prescription. Within 24 hours the rash is gone! The doctor told me we are likely to see this rash again and again as each tooth comes in because Maggie has sensitive skin. So far I can't even feel a tooth coming in but Maggie's definitely drooling like Niagra Falls.

Maggie is wearing 3-6 month clothes.  She's drinking between 30 and 36 ounces of formula a day.  She's eating about 2 T of fruit and 2 T of veggies at each meal so the total formula is now starting to drop.  She's taking 2-3 naps a day and beginning to sleep 8:30 pm to 5:30 am each night with only one time or no times of us having to give her back the binky in the middle of the night.
