January 2015

We've had a low key month.  It's been really nice after the busy holidays.  We've had movie nights at home.  We've hung out with family.  We've gone to the Children's Museum.  We've gone to Amigos a few times--as if we could have a month go by without Amigos!

Last weekend a car was broke into at our apartment complex.  A few days later a note was put on everyone's doors requesting that we contact the LPD if we had any information.  The girls asked what the note said and then used their 4 and 6 year old logic to solve the problem/prevent it from happening again.  Mena said they needed to put a fence around the whole apartment complex and then the manager would have to let us in when we came home.  Maggie declared this would take too long at night because "she would have to get out of bed and take off her pajamas and get dressed and brush her teeth and brush her hair and put in ponytails or maybe she'd want barrettes; she'd have to decide; and oh my gosh.  I forgot flossing.  She needs to floss her teeth."  I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment of their thinking!!

I've been student teaching and we've gotten used to a new schedule of getting up earlier and coming home earlier.  None of us care for leaving at 6:50 am in the morning but the girls really like it when I can pick them up at 4 pm rather than 5 or 5:30 pm.  Life is good and we're all counting down to when I graduate in May!!

Maggie's Oops

This accident report from daycare says, "Maggie was dancing to the 'snow'key pokey with the class when her and another friend accidentally bonked heads.  Maggie has a small bruise on her right eyebrow."  Miss Marne told me that Maggie had to finish dancing before she'd get an ice pack for her head :-)

Mena in a Snow Globe

Mena made this in Kindergarten and they had all the kids' snow globes hanging on the wall for the parents to look at while waiting for their turn during parent-teacher conferences.  Mena is doing great.  She's no longer on an IEP but Miss Cassie is still pulling her as a peer model and because she "loves working with her!"  Mena gets extra practice and enjoys the time with Miss Cassie so I happily agreed to her continuing to be pulled from class.

Maggie's Sunday School class

Maggie and Olivia are decorating their crowns with jewels after reading the story of the Wise Men visiting Jesus during Sunday School this morning.

Later in the afternoon I shared on facebook:  Maggie decided it is King Herod's fault that we have to stir fruit on the bottom yogurt when it should come already mixed! (Preschool SS talked about the 3 wise men & them being told in a dream to not tell King Herod where they found Jesus.) I love the connections in preschoolers' brains!

New Year's Eve

We had a sleepover at Peg and Jon's house for New Year's Eve.  Peg's and my cousin Rachal also came.  The three kids ran around happily playing together.  I splurged on shrimp and scallops which us four adults enjoyed and the kids didn't care much for.  When the ball dropped in New York we toasted with our kids with sparkling grape juice.  The kids then fell asleep around 11:30 watching a movie in Jake's bed.  Us adults toasted at midnight.

I went to bed up in the attic around 12:30 am.  The kids were all asleep in Jake's bed so we left them there.  Around 3 am I heard a little voice calling "mom!"  I ran downstairs to find Jake in the hallway and both of my girls crying in his bed.  I tried to calm them down but they just wanted to be with me.  At 3 am I set up two more camping cots in the attic while Mena went to the basement for the sleeping bags we'd brought with us.  Mena also carried the pillows from Jake's bed to the attic.  The girls went right back to sleep once they were in the same room as me.  It took me awhile to fall back to sleep.  The next morning I woke up to Mena saying, "I don't know where Mom is.  She's not on her cot."  To which Maggie replied, "Yes, she is.  Come look.  I can see her right here."  I was snugged down in my sleeping bag with my head just sticking out enough for Maggie to find me.

Gene's and my parenting plan says that the girls go to the other parent's house at 11 am on New Year's day.  I told him I'd just drop them off at his house on my way home so they got there around 9:30 am.  I got home and unpacked the car.  I was ready to put my keys away and couldn't find my purse.  I'd left it at Peg's!  As I was driving to Peg's my phone rang.  Mena was crying because she wanted it to be a mommy day.  I told her I'd stop by to give her another hug after I'd picked up my purse.  She thought that was a good idea.  I got hugs from both of my girls before I headed home for the second time.
