Mena's sculpture

Mena made this sculpture in art class.  I took a picture since it won't keep in a scrapbook very well!

Carving Pumpkins

The girls carved their own pumpkins this year with minimal assistance from me.  Mena designed her own face.  Maggie had me trace a cat and moon pattern on hers.  Maggie cut all the lines by herself and it turned out great!

Trunk or Treat

The girls brought their costumes from their dad's house this year.  Mena told me her costume was a fairy this year.  I was surprised to see a black costume.  Some people called her a spider angel or a black angel, but Mena took it all in stride and enjoyed wearing her costume.  Maggie's costume was Moana and I've never seen the movie.  The tube top was too small for Maggie and I used part of the over-skirt to tie around her chest.  She was happy with the way the costume looked but then took it all off declaring it was too itchy.  I took the girls to a Trunk or Treat at their daycare church on Saturday and to our church on Sunday.  Mena sorted her candy by type.  Maggie sorted her candy into two piles.  She put the second pile into the pink and white striped bag for me :)

New Furniture

My dad came to Lincoln to use his pickup to bring my new rocker-recliners home.  I am excited to have a matching living room set.  This is the first time in my life that I bought my own set of furniture.  Mena's first comment was "Now we can't eat on any of our furniture!"

Vala's Pumpkin Patch

Beth, Peyton, and Tyler met Mena, Maggie, and I at Vala's Pumpkin Patch on Sunday afternoon.  I called Beth on her cell phone so we could find each other in the parking lot.  Mena was still laughing the next day when she asked, "Mom, do you remember when you were on the phone with Beth and you told her, 'Turn around!  I'm staring right at you!!' That was so funny!!!" You never know what will catch a person's funny bone :-)

Peyton and Mena were messing around trying to get each other's heads while we stood in line for the train.  Take a look at Tyler and Beth in the background of each picture.  I got pictures of the girls and me sitting on the train.  After the train ride, the kids played on the wooden train.  The boys were climbing on top while the girls were running in and out of the train.  When Ty tried to climb down, he almost stepped on another girl's head.  I asked her to go back inside so Ty could get down and told her he didn't mean to step on her.  Then I told Ty he could come down.  Then another boy told me, "I'm not one of your boys."  I laughed and told him, "No, you're not one of my boys" which got Beth and I laughing.

We rode pedal go carts which were horribly hard on my legs!  Peyton went multiple times on the one passenger trikes, but I only took my girls on the 4-wheel pedal cars once.  I felt like we were the slowest on the track since I had trouble going.  Mena tried to help pedal but her feet just reached the pedals and sometimes were falling off the pedals.  Maggie rode in the front where there were no pedals.

Mena and Maggie enjoyed the tractors, wagons, and slides in another play area.  Mena and Maggie both liked pumping water to race plastic ducks, but Maggie got bored while Mena continued to have fun.

We found the place that makes custom caramel apples.  Maggie and I ordered candy covered apples while Mena chose to order pretzel sticks covered with candy.  That was our "supper" when we got home.  I told them we had to eat at a table and not on the car ride home!

3rd Grade Bibles

Mena was excited to receive her 3rd Grade Bible at church this year.  She was really nervous because she remembered that in past years, Pastor David has asked the kids to find a Bible verse for them to read and talk about.  After the children's time, she came back to the pew and excitedly told me, "He put bookmarks in this year so I could find it easily!"  Mena is in the pink dress with jean jacket and striped headband.  She's been reading it here at home.

Mena's Friend Birthday Party

Due to scheduling conflicts, we had to postpone Mena's friend birthday party until Sunday, October 1st.  Mena said, "That's fine because I'm not getting presents anyway."  This year I decided since the girls have so much that we could use their birthday parties as an opportunity to give to others in need.  The girls chose the Humane Society.  Presley, Mena, Holly, and Adisynne sat with all the donations while holding their emoji faces under the emoji birthday sign.  The poster says, "Throw kindness around like Confetti!"

I had enough cupcakes left from the family party that each girl was able to eat 2.  I let them spread their own frosting and sprinkles on the cupcake which they thought was fun.  The girls played well together the whole 2 hours they were here.
