Why? Because.
One night this week, I was making supper and the girls were playing. I'm not sure what they were arguing over but suddenly I heard Mena yell at Maggie, "No! I say 'why?' and you say 'cause'!"

Ducks at Holmes Lake
Monday, I had my first day of my first summer class. There wasn't much homework so when I got it done, I decided to pack a picnic supper before I left to get the girls. I picked them up from daycare and we went straight to Holmes Lake. First, we ate our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Well, Maggie and I had pb and j, but Mena likes her sandwiches with just peanut butter. Then we put the cooler back in the truck and grabbed half a loaf of bread. We walked over to the side of the lake where we could see some ducks. The girls tried to throw the pieces of bread to the ducks, but the ducks didn't want to get to close to us. I was able to throw the bread out far enough so the ducks would eat it. As long as the ducks were eating it, the girls didn't seem to care who had thrown it.

Vacation--Lincoln Zoo
Saturday, Angie and Aurora met us at the Lincoln Zoo. Maggie was willing to get on the turtle this time. (On Mother's Day, she refused to join Mena on the turtle.) The cut outs and the eagle's nest were big hits again. We walked past the caterpillar twice and both times the girls climbed on and asked me to take their picture. Maggie and Mena hadn't paid much attention to the climbing structure by the monkeys on Mother's Day, but when Aurora climbed on, then both of my girls joined her. I guess they were tired out and needed to take a rest in the egg before we left!
We ate lunch with Angie and Aurora. Maggie was getting whiny so I said we needed to head home for her nap. After nap, I told Mena I thought we should just stay home since we'd gone and done something 3 days in a row. She started to give me a disappointed look. When I rattled off everything we'd done for the last three days and that we needed some time to just stay home and relax, then she bought into the idea of staying home and her disappointed look was replaced with excitement to play at home with mommy.

Vacation--Park with Maggie
Friday morning while Mena was in school, rather than getting stuff done like I'd spent my Monday through Thursday, I spent the morning with Maggie. We started at Antelope Park. Maggie saw the playground but I told her Mommy needed some exercise first. I pushed the stroller for 30 minutes and we stopped at a playground to play. Then I pushed the stroller back to Antelope Park and we played at that playground. Then Maggie and I went home for lunch before picking Mena up from school.
Friday afternoon the girls played at home and Friday evening we had a playdate at Tracy's house. Us moms (Tracy, Chelsey, Billie, Teri, and I) sat around drinking and eating while the kids (Mena, Maggie, Kylinn, Delaney, Logan, and Kristen) ate and played in the backyard. They have a great deck and fenced yard with playset and sandbox. We always hang out until we can tell the kids are too tired and start arguing. In the past we've headed home about 9:30 or 10 pm. This Friday night the girls didn't start getting whiney and bickering until 10:30! We were home by 11 and in bed. Great vacation time with friends!

Vacation--Durham Museum
Tuesday and Wednesday, I picked the girls up from daycare early since I didn't have school and Mena was done at noon. The girls were able to play at home but we couldn't take any day trips because Mena had swimming lessons on Tuesday and choir on Wednesday. Thursday, we were able to go to Durham Museum.
The girls enjoyed playing in the train cars, the trolley, and the house displays. Mena wanted to look at all the statues in Durham Museum depicting the travelers but she didn't want her picture taken with any of them. Maggie was scared of the statues, especially when the audio started playing when we got close to the statues. The other displays in Durham were "boring." We went back to the train cars, trolley, and house displays after quickly viewing the boring stuff.
