Mena's Cast

Mena saw the orthopaedic doctor this afternoon. He popped the finger back inline with the growth plate so her finger will grow straight. Mena was so strong! Normally they give 2 numbing shots to kids & 3 to adults. Mena held so still that they were able to give her the 3 shots which was very helpful. Mena felt pain when he popped the finger back in place. She cried just a little, but after the doctor stepped out, she threw up. Once her stomach settled, they took x-rays so they could see it was straight. Then they put the cast on.

When we got home, she laid on the couch about an hour. Then we went to Burger King. She was feeling good the rest of the night with it "not really painful."

This girl amazes me! She had stitches at 3 & this broken finger at 9, and both times she held still through the pain so the doctors could do their job. Both doctors commented about how she did better than most people!

Maggie Sleeping and Story

Maggie has been taking over my bed.  I thought a king size bed would be big enough but the last couple of nights it has felt like the song "and the little one said, roll over, I'm crowded!"

While driving, Maggie asked me when I start my new job.  I told her that I am still home-based for June and July, and that I'll start at Kooser in August.  Her reply:  So next month's next month.  That's complicated.  My reply:  well when you put it that way, yes it's complicated.

Reading

All 3 of us signed up for the library summer reading program.  There's a bit of protesting from the girls, but mostly they comply with my requirement that they read 20 minutes every day.  They tend to read 30 minutes since the reading program is tracked in 15 minute segments.  I'm enjoying reading more too in the afternoons when we're home.  Some of my time off we're spending at home.  One week in June and one week in July, we're going to Summer Daze in the mornings.  I work while the girls are in camp since I got my part time job back.

Mena's Broken Finger

Saturday, June 16th, Mena fell off the porch swing at her dad's house while trying to put her feet up on the swing.  There's a tiny fracture where the middle finger meets the hand.  She's in a splint until we get to see the orthopedic doctor on Friday, June 22nd.

Stormchasers

Daycare took the school-agers to a Stormchasers game in Omaha.  Mena said that their class took home 5 balls from the game!

The only funny thing about this day had to do with Gene and me.  I'm working on the weeks Gene has the kids and I'm home on the weeks I have the kids.  Last year I only worked 10 days and had all the Mondays off that the girls were going back to their dad's.  This year I'm working 15 days and I'm working all the Mondays.  I have a couple Fridays off, but between working and trainings, I'm working 18 days.  So on this morning, I took the kids to daycare since that was where I last knew Gene was taking the girls while he was working and his wife was home on maternity leave.  Around 11 am, I got a text from Gene telling me that I could bring the girls to Jess or he'd pick them up after work.  I texted back that I was at work and the girls had been at daycare all day.  He never responded to me, but it all worked out.  The girls had fun and Gene got them after work from daycare.

SAC Museum

My cousin's son got married and their reception was at SAC Museum.  Mena, Maggie, and Jake had a blast playing in the learning center.  The cockpit was their favorite place and they did a great job taking turns with the two seats and the middle.  Their imaginations were running wild, as well as their feet since the wedding party were the only people in the museum.  I walked with the kids at first and then decided they were old enough to play by themselves while I visited with family.

Show Choir Camp

The same week as VBS, Mena had Show Choir Camp.  She enjoyed it and wants to go again next year.  Grandma and Papa came to the Show Choir performance.  Then we ran downtown for the VBS performance.  Then we enjoyed pizza and ice cream at the VBS carnival afterwards.

VBS

Another great year at VBS.  I didn't get pictures of the girls at the program since I was helping, but these are pictures of them practicing the songs.  Grandma and Papa came to the VBS program, but Gene didn't make it this year.
