Brunch after the Baptism

My mom and dad, Beth and Peyton, and Peg, Jon, and Jake came back to our apartment after church to eat brunch.  I went overboard but since so much was experiment, I was afraid something wouldn't turn out and we'd have nothing to eat.  Everything turned out so we had egg and sausage casserole in the crockpot, french toast casserole using the timed cook on the oven, blueberry muffins, bagels and cream cheese, fresh fruit, and juice!

After brunch, Mena opened her gifts.  (I really need to not talk while pictures are being taken; I look weird in quite a few!)  Mena enjoys listening to books she can look at.  I got her a music cd with a songbook.  Beth got her a children's Bible with the stories on cd.  Mom and Dad got her a beautiful wooden cross that has her name and date of baptism on it.  Peg and Jon got her a very pretty cross necklace.  Mena was thrilled with her day!

July 29, 2012 Mena's Baptism

Mena's been talking about getting baptized for about 5 months since I read the story of John baptizing Jesus.  Over those months I talked with her about how we get baptized to say we love Jesus.  We talked about how God wants us to make good choices and not bad choices.  So after about 4 months of conversations, I decided she was serious and arranged everything for Mena to get baptized.  She wouldn't actually talk to Pastor David much about the baptism so we did the service identical to an infant baptism.  I'm happy she chose this for herself!

I explained to Mena that she could have godparents to help her make good choices when mommy and daddy weren't there to help her make choices.  I then asked who she wanted to help her.  She chose Aunt Peggy and Uncle Jon.

Mena

Here are some cute facebook posts that I made about Mena this month:

7-30-12

Mena:  Mommy, I need a haircut. My hair is getting in my armpits!

7-23-12
While driving home and listening to our new cd, Mena says, "Mommy, that's the same music from church!" Another great night at VBS!

7-22-12
Great first night at VBS! Mena enjoyed it and was amazed that I got to do the same activities that she did in her preschool class (I was with the 5 year olds).

7-20-12
Mena is playing with barbies and tells me, "The mommy and daddy are mad. They need to move." I ask, "Where will they move to?" Mena states very matter of factly, "To the sycamore tree." I then ask, "So what are they mad about?" Her reply, "They are mad at the people." Did Gene's and my divorce get mixed into the Zaccheaus story?

7-20-12
I think the barbies have moved to a nudist colony. They are now watching tv in the nude in mixed company.

7-15-12
Mena got out of bed. I told her to go back to bed. She runs towards her bedroom and runs smack into the door frame. She even bounced backwards as she fell. She was crying and I couldn't help but bust a gut laughing. I felt bad but I couldn't stop. good news: she began laughing with me. We got the yellow smiley face ice pack out, put it on her cheek and then she went back to bed "carefully."

Swimming

Here the girls are painting swimming suits.  We've gone to the spray park and to the pool this summer.  My only disappointment was that there wasn't anyone to take pictures of us so you can't see the great smiles they had while playing in the water!  We're working on getting Mena into swim lessons in the near future.

Maggie

7-16-12 (First picture)
Maggie still sleeps in footed jammies so I haven't given her more than the fitted sheet on her toddler bed. Tonight she pulled this blanket onto her bed and wanted me to cover her up. I go back to check on her and she has turned around and has a sweaty head, but so darn cute.  Ashley Parrish made that blanket for Mena when she was born.

Other pictures are cute and the following stories are cute, but they don't match up together.

7-14-12
Maggie's favorite song to sing: twinkle little star, wonder what you are, up a ba ba ba ba sky, twinkle little star, wonder what you are

7-16-12
During a snack of a banana and animal crackers, Maggie asked 4 times for a fork. Each time I told her, "No, you don't need a fork." The last time she said, "You funny."

7-29-12
The girls had been in bed for 40 minutes when Maggie suddenly started crying. I went in and ask if she needed a diaper change. She said yes, so I changed her. As I left she said, "I wuv you!" Ahh, motherhood.

7-25-12  My post on facebook:
I miss my girls. The last time they slept at my house (just a couple of days ago) Maggie came into my room at 4:45 am (way too early), held up her arms, I lifted her into bed and she snuggled up to me and slept until my alarm went off at 6 am. What a great memory to carry me through until I get the girls back on Friday :)

Best Friends

Most of the time the girls are best friends.  They were being silly in Maggie's toddler bed here.  On another occasion, the girls were playing so nicely when all of a sudden they were fighting over a toy and went at each other with open mouths both trying to bite the other. I yelled at them and told them to use their words and no one got bitten. In retrospect it was a bit like the animal channel with two tigers going open mouthed at each other in a fight.  Funny to think about in retrospect!

Toilet Paper!

On July 14th, while I took a shower, Maggie unrolled the toilet paper!

Earlier, on July 9th,
Maggie woke up dry and went potty in the potty chair for the first time!

Lincoln Zoo

July 14th, we went to the zoo with Angie and Aurora.  The girls had a lot of fun!  Aurora is actually 6 months older than Maggie, but Maggie is bigger!

Mena decided she wanted to have her birthday party in this playhouse so I'm working on the plans.

Family

Mena drew this picture in Sunday School.  She seems to understand we're all still family even though we live in two houses.  She even includes our pets in her family picture.

Happy Face

In this picture Mena is enjoying a relaxing afternoon while Maggie is napping.  Mena is in size 5 tops and shorts.  When Peg trimmed our hair, I asked if she wanted her hair short or long and she chose long.  She's doing well with letting me brush it so I'll let her keep it long.
